Module 1 – Purser Crew Course

This module will provide you with an understanding of the role of the Purser and provide tools to help organise, manage and administer your office. Crew related issues will be addressed to include contracts, insurance and visas. An understanding of the role that the Purser takes within muster duties will be highlighted.

Module 2 – Purser Port Clearance Course

This module will provide you with an understanding of customs and immigration procedures and knowledge of documentation required for a port clearance.

  • Departure procedures

Module 3 – Purser Maritime Course

This module is designed to give you an understanding of the maritime legalities and requirements from the International Maritime Organisation and the International Labour Organisation and their relation to the yachting industry. The importance of flag state and their role will also be addressed.

  • The structure of the maritime organisation
  • Familiarisation of all relevant IMO and ILO conventions
  • The role and duties of flag state
  • Understanding of port state control
  • Understanding of flag influence within yacht regulations

Module 4 – Purser Financial Management Course

This module will provide you with an understanding of the importance of accurate financial management. Basic accounting principles, purchase orders, bookkeeping, budgeting, reporting and VAT will be covered.

  • General accounting procedures

Module 5 – Purser Charter Course

This module will provide an understanding of the charter process, agreements and accounts involved.

  • Familiarisation of charter agreements
  • Understanding the MYBA agreement
  • Understanding cultural differences
  • How to resolve misunderstandings and complaints

Module 6 – Purser Destination Management Course

This module will provide an understanding of the research involved with new destinations and the importance of reconnaissance. We will look into different ways to present information to guests, guest decision making and the logistics involved with guests on-board to include arrival and activity planning.

€3,000.00 for all six modules

Students must  have a good understanding of the English language, both written and verbal and be at least 18 years of age. Minimum of 2 years in a senior position on-board a yacht, experience within villa or office management. A CV will be required as proof of experience.
